EMMES Corporation Services

Brian Hochheimer

Chief Financial Officer

Why I joined Emmes

I was excited about a company that put the science, not the business, first. That was refreshing!

How I describe our firm to other people

We’re a partner and supporter of scientific advancement.

A bit about me

I love to ski and I dabble in triathlons. My wife and I like to spend time at our cabin in Southern Maryland. If I had more free time, I’d spend it skiing in Colorado!

A typical day

Most of the time, it’s about problem-solving. Some examples: crafting agreements with our clients, helping project teams figure out how to deliver our work within budget, determining ways to be compliant with all the various rules and regulations.

Something I’m most proud of

I’m proud of the sign on our building; it symbolizes our growth and the pride in our brand. I’m proud of our willingness to try new things, such as our expansion and growth in Canada and India.

My background

Most of my career has been spent with both private and public companies that work for the government. I’ve been a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Maryland since 1983 and I’m involved in both the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. I’m also a member of the Maryland State Bar Association. Earlier in my career, I worked as both an accountant and an attorney before assuming the combined role – general counsel and chief financial officer, for a healthcare management consultant firm. Later, I was chief financial officer of Barents Group/KPMG and senior finance director at Bearing Point/KPMG Consulting. In 2005, I started at Emmes and oversee our accounting, contracts, legal, facilities and human resources departments. My education and work experience in both accounting and law has been extremely useful, not only in my past jobs but here at Emmes, especially as I work with our auditors, bankers and outside legal counsel. Basically, my job is to make sure we remain financially successful and that we have the resources we need to meet our client needs. I think it’s important to stay active in the community; I’m on the board of directors for the Legal Aid Bureau of Maryland and used to be president of the Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland.
